7 Goals of Every Entrepreneurial Author
by David Hancock
Founder & Publisher of Morgan James PublishingEntrepreneurial Authors achieve their goals on a daily basis.
Their long-term goals are lofty. Those goals exist in the future.
Their short-term goals are even loftier. Those exist in the present—because that is the domain of the entrepreneur. This is where the Entrepreneurial Author's goals are found in abundance.
Your ability to plan for the future and learn from the past will determine your level of comfort in the present, in the here and now.
Today’s article shares 7 goals of every entrepreneurial author.
Authors of the twentieth century were motivated by a slightly different version of the American Dream. In place of a house, a job, and financial security, they sought fortune, security, expansion, and power. But that journey was characterized by a workaholic mindset, sacrifice, and greed.
The author of the twenty-first century is more of a guerrilla—one who thrives on the nontraditional, does the unconventional, if the conventional is nonsensical, and knows that working in the new millennium requires rethinking the nature of being a successful Entrepreneurial Author.
The Entrepreneurial Author will be motivated by the journey itself, because the journey will be the goal.
Balance will be the new dream. The Entrepreneurial Author who goes about creating a profit-producing enterprise will begin with balance, actually starting with work that makes them happy— the goal of all entrepreneurial dreams. Once that has been attained, The Entrepreneurial Author will be able to pursue their other goals: making money, enjoying free time, maintaining their health, and having fun.
When the journey is the goal, you can begin with work that satisfies you. You will have time to spend enjoying activities other than the work you love and a remarkable freedom from work-related stress.
The Entrepreneurial Authors, many of whom exist today well ahead of their time, have characteristics in common. These hallmarks fuel the commitment these authors have— to themselves, their families, their communities, and their work.
Most importantly, I hope you realize, the goal of
The Entrepreneurial Author is the journey itself.
Here are 7 goals that allow the Entrepreneurial Author to embrace the journey.
1. The Entrepreneurial Author knows that the journey is the goal.
He also realizes that he is in control of his enterprise, not the other way around; and if he is dissatisfied with his journey, he is missing the point of the journey itself.
Unlike old-fashioned enterprises, which often required gigantic sacrifices for the sake of the goal, The Entrepreneurial Author places the goal of a pleasant journey ahead of the mere notion of sacrifices.
2. The Entrepreneurial Author achieves balance from the very start.
She builds free time into her work schedule so that balance is part of her enterprise.
She respects her leisure time as much as her work time, never allowing too much of one to interfere with the other.
Traditional authors always placed work ahead of leisure and showed no respect for their own personal freedom.
Entrepreneurial Authors cherish their freedom as much as their work.
3. The Entrepreneurial Author is not in a hurry.
Unnecessary speed frequently undermines even the best-conceived strategies. Haste makes waste and sacrifices quality. The Entrepreneurial Author is fully aware that patience is his ally, and he has planned intelligently to eliminate most emergencies that call for moving fast. His pace is always steady but never rushed.
4. The Entrepreneurial Author uses stress as a benchmark.
If she feels any stress, she knows she must be going about things in the wrong way.
Entrepreneurial Authors do not accept stress as a part of doing business and recognize any stress as a warning sign that something’s the matter—in the work plan of the author or in the business itself. Adjustments are made to eliminate the cause of the stress, which causes the stress to disappear.
5. The Entrepreneurial Author looks forward to work.
He has a love affair with his work and considers himself blessed to be paid for doing the work that he does. He is good at his work, energizing his passion for it in a quest to learn more about it and improve his understanding of it, thereby increasing his skills.
The Entrepreneurial Author doesn’t think about his retirement because he would never want to stop doing the work he loves.
6. The Entrepreneurial Author has no weaknesses.
She is effective in every aspect of her enterprise, because she has filled in the gaps between her strengths and talents with people who abound at the prowess she lacks.
She is very much a team player and allies herself with other Entrepreneurial Authors who share the team spirit and possess complementary skills.
She values her teammates as much as old-fashioned authors valued their independence.
7. The Entrepreneurial Author is fusion-oriented.
He is always on the alert to fuse his business with other synergistic authors.
He is willing to combine marketing efforts, production skills, information, leads, mailing lists, and anything else to increase his effectiveness and marketing reach while reducing the cost of achieving those goals.
Reaching New Heights and Achieving New Possibilities
Armed with the right vision and the right information, The Entrepreneurial Author can attain heights never before envisioned.
They can add the element of love to their work, because they will devote themselves only to work that they love.
These 7 goals been written to make the dream vividly clear to you. If you can see the dream, you can will it to come true. If you can will it to come true, you can take the steps to empower your will with actions.
The Entrepreneurial Author does more than read books and attend seminars about achievement and success. They take action, do something, and shake the tree.
They know that their time on Earth is limited and that the most important time is right now.
To do this, they go with the flow— their own flow— possessing the sensitivity to know what they really want, what they can do well, why they’re here, what they love to do, what is realistic, and what is possible.
